What a difference 24 hours and less stupid penalties can make in the outlook of a team and its fans. In a complete turnabout, the Predators played a solid game and avoided the lead killing penalties as they bested a Marion Gaborik-less New York Rangers team last night.
The Preds helped themselves in the standings with the two points as they now have a four point spread over the ninth place Wings and two points, and a game in hand over Calgary, who is in eight. With 23 games left, a point per game will only get them to 92 points which will not make the playoffs. It's time to pick up the pace and not take it down to the wire.
A fifth or six place finish would give the Preds a much better chance to advance to the second round where they wouldn't see San Jose or the Blackhawks in the first round.
Here is our game recap from last night's game.
The Tennessean had the AP story but has John Glennon's postgame ramblings. I don't get that.
The View from 111 was at the game at MSG and has some tough love for the veterans.
See Puck City was also at the game and has his insights.
From the blogs come Forechecker, Brandon Felder, What the Puck, and Fan Huddle.
From the other side comes postgame Notes and Quotes from the Ranger Report. The Post blames the loss on Del Zotto's penalty. There are also stories from North Jersey, The New York Times, and the NY Daily News.
I liked this note on a Rangers board after the game, "Nashville won, at least there was no one here to see it. I think Elvis has left the building, and he took the two points with him."

Montreal put an end to Washington's win streak at 14 games. That was quite a ride for the Caps and their fans.
For those who have asked from @kausatoday: "The NHL Olympic trade moratorium starts at 3 p.m. Friday and ends Feb. 28 at 11:59 p.m. No trades can be made between those times."
Matt Duchene will coach his high school hockey team during the Olympic break.
Here is the ultimate combination of geek and hockey. The Red Wings have put QR codes in their program so that folks can watch a video on their phone after scanning the code. This is really interesting technology. I downloaded a scanner for my Blackberry here.
