Wilson and Sulzer Sent to Milwaukee

As expected, Colin Wilson was returned to Milwaukee after an impressive stint with the Predators in a four game call-up. If he continues to improve at the same rate, his next call up could be permanent.

I also expected Cody Franson to be returned once he recovers from his injury, but I am a bit surprised that Alexander Sulzer was sent down at this time. I am assuming that the Preds aren't expecting Germany to go too deep in the Olympic tournament.

Here is the full release from the Predators...

Nashville, Tenn. (February 15, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has reassigned forward Colin Wilson and defenseman Alexander Sulzer to Milwaukee (AHL).

Wilson, 20 (10/20/89), posted two points in four games during his second NHL stint which started Feb. 9, scoring his first ever game-winning goal against the New York Rangers on Tuesday, then posting his second career assist the following game at New Jersey on Friday night. He played a career-high 18:06 in Sunday’s 4-3 shootout victory over the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins to finish off the Predators pre-Olympic break schedule. In 14 games this season, the seventh overall pick in the 2008 Entry Draft has four points (2g-2a). He heads back to Milwaukee where he has 24 points (9g-15a) in his last 17 AHL outings.

Sulzer, 25 (5/30/84), has a pair of assists in 18 games for the Predators in 2009-10, and suited up for all six of Nashville’s games during his most recent recall (Feb. 4-14). He will not be heading to Milwaukee, but rather to Vancouver to represent Germany in the 2010 Olympics, his second appearance in the Winter Games. The 6-1, 204-pound blueliner also has 19 points (4g-15a) in 19 games at the AHL level this season.

Today the Predators start a two-and-a-half week break from game action for the 2010 Olympics, where six players – Shea Weber (Canada), Ryan Suter (United States), Patric Hornqvist (Sweden), Martin Erat (Czech Republic), Marcel Goc (Germany) and Sulzer (Germany) will represent Nashville on the sporting world’s biggest stage. The Predators next action comes March 2 at home against the Edmonton Oilers, their first of 10 games at the Sommet Center next month. Tickets to all 10 games – which ties the franchise record for most home games in a month – and all regular season contests are now on sale and can be purchased by logging onto Tickets are also available by calling (615) 770-PUCK and at all Ticketmaster locations.

Glad to see that the Pred are giving Wilson some more ice time. He is amazing. The Ads are super lucky to have him back, even if its only for a week. They need help turning the corner, Wilson could be that spark. Sulzer is also very good, but I think his recall is more of a salary saver than an actual recall. With Franson hurt, Sulzer will be back in Nashville ASAP. Your Blog is awesome.
