Predators Send Jones and Holmqvist to Milwaukee

The Nashville Predators sent rookies Ryan Jones and Patric Hornqvist to Milwaukee today where they should see plenty of action in back to back games Friday and Saturday. Both have been recent healthy scratches and should get more opportunity for ice time in the next few days playing in Milwaukee.

In spite of getting schooled on several occasions against the rough and tumble San Jose Sharks, Jones has been a proven contributor in front of the net scoring three goals and adding three assists. Holmqvist has also shown his NHL worthiness with his speed and ability to shoot the puck scoring twice and adding five helpers.

The move leaves the Predators with 2 goalies, 7 defensemen and 12 forwards for a total of 21 active players. I would expect a recall fairly quickly of these two or one of several others that have played well in Milwaukee since there are no extra forwards on the squad traveling to Tampa Bay and Carolina for the short weekend trip. Cal O'Reilly leads the Admirals with 16 points (4g) in 14 games. Antti Philstrom has also performed well with six goals after being the last player cut in camp.

It will be interesting to see how Jones and Holmqvistt respond to their stint in Milwaukee after playing regularly in Nashville for the first six weeks of the season.
