NHL Awards Show Order and Presenters Announced

For those of you scoring at home, here is the order of the awards as well as the presenters for tonight's NHL Awards Show that will be on Versus at 6 p.m. CDT.

The Predators best chance at hardware will come early with the Norris Trophy (Shea Weber) first up on the agenda and the Jack Adams (Barry Trotz). The GM of the Year Award (David Poile) should be just past the midpoint in the show while the Vezina (Pekka Rinne) will be the penultimate award.

POTG Picks the Winners of the NHL Awards

As I fly at 40,000 feet heading into Las Vegas, it is finally time to make the official choices of who I think will win this year's NHL Awards. The following picks are not necessarily the ones I would have chosen, but who I think will actually hit the stage and take home the hardware on Wednesday night in the Pearl Theater at the Palms Resort and Casino.

Nashville Predators Enjoying the Spotlight in Las Vegas

Tuesday afternoon, at the Palms Resort and Casino, the Nashville Predators seemed to be all over the place at the pre-awards media event. With four representatives nominated for awards, only the Vancouver Canucks had more personnel on hand for the preliminaries to the festivities that will be broadcast Wednesday night on  Versus at 6 p.m. CDT.

Ted Lindsay Award Top Three Announced: Perry, D. Sedin, Stamkos

The NHLPA announced the top three finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award that goes to the Most Outstanding Player as voted on by the players themselves. This award is similar to the Hart Trophy but may be considered to be more of an honor since it comes from fellow competitors.

Top Three Jack Adams Finalists Announced: Bylsma, Trotz, and Vigneault

The NHL Trophy announcement for today is the Jack Adams Award which is the annual award presented by the National Hockey League Broadcasters' Association and is given to "the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success." The winner is selected in a poll among members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association at the end of the regular season.

The top three finalists this year includes Dan Bylsma from Pittsburgh, Barry Trotz from the Predators, and Alain Vigneault from Vancouver.

Top Three Hart Finalists Announced: Perry, D. Sedin, St. Louis

The NHL Trophy announcement for today is the long awaited Hart Memorial Trophy which is is an annual award given to "the player judged to be the most valuable to his team." Voting was done by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season.

The top three finalists this year includes Corey Perry of the Ducks, Daniel Sedin from Vancouver, and Martin St. Louis from Tampa.

Others that were considered to be in the running included Ryan Kesler from Vancouver, Steven Stamkos from Tampa, and Alexander Ovechkin from Washington. Pekka Rinne was though to have a shot as a goalie since he held the Predators together for the entire season. Had Sidney Crosby not been injured in January, he possibly would have been the run-away winner.

The final presentation to the winner will be made at the NHL Awards Show at the Pearl Theater at the Palms Casino and Resort on June 22.

Annual NHL Awards Show Set for Wednesday, June 22, at the Pearl Concert Theater;
Tickets Now On Sale to Public

NEW YORK (March 31, 2011) – The stars of the National Hockey League will come together with celebrities from music, stage and screen for a celebration of hockey at the star-studded 2011 NHL® Awards on Wednesday, June 22, at the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. It will be the third straight year the NHL has feted the best hockey players in the world at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. The 2011 NHL Awards will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada.

Tickets to the 2011 NHL Awards go on sale to the public today, Thursday, March 31, at Noon PT / 3 p.m. ET, via Ticketmaster.com at nhl.com/awardstickets and at the Pearl Concert Theater Box Office. Tickets include access to the 2011 NHL Awards show and the official NHL Awards Party, a cocktail reception to be held immediately following the show. Guests must be 21 or older to attend the NHL Awards Party.

Individual honors to be presented at the 2011 NHL Awards include: Art Ross Trophy (top scorer for the regular season), Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey), Calder Memorial Trophy (outstanding rookie), Frank J. Selke Trophy (outstanding defensive forward), Hart Memorial Trophy (most valuable player to his team), Jack Adams Award (outstanding coach), James Norris Memorial Trophy (outstanding all-around defenseman), King Clancy Memorial Trophy presented by U.S. Army (leadership and humanitarian contribution to his community), Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct), Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award Presented by Bridgestone (superior leader in hockey and a contributing member of society), Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy (top goal-scorer for the regular season), the NHL Foundation Player Award (charitable and community work), Williams M. Jennings Trophy (goaltender(s) on team with fewest goals-against), the NHL Lifetime Achievement Award, and Vezina Trophy (outstanding goaltender).

The Ted Lindsay Award, formerly known as the Lester B. Pearson Award, which is presented annually to the “most outstanding player” in the NHL as voted by fellow members of the National Hockey League Players' Association, will also be awarded.

With just eleven days remaining in the NHL regular season, the races for the Maurice “Rocket” Richard and Art Ross Trophies are coming down to the wire. In the race for the Rocket, Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks has vaulted into the lead with 46 goals. In his past eleven contests, Perry has scored 15 goals; a span that includes six multiple-goal games, four game-winning goals and two overtime goals. Right behind in second place with 44 goals is Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who is looking to repeat as the leading goal scorer in the NHL after sharing that honor in 2010 with Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby.

For the Art Ross Trophy, Daniel Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks leads the pack with 98 points, seven ahead of Tampa Bay’s Martin St. Louis with 91. Sedin is trying to keep the trophy in the family as his brother, Henrik, who currently sits tied for second place with 91 points, won the award in 2010. Perry, with 89 points, and Stamkos with 88 round out the top five competitors.
