Announcement on Relocation of Atlanta to Winnipeg at Noon EDT on NHL Network

It is finally going to be official today at noon EDT when True North Sports and Entertainment will hold a press conference at the MTS Centre to announce that the Atlanta Thrashers will be sold and moved to Winnipeg for the 2011-12 season.

The press conference will be carried live on the NHL Network and streamed on NHL.com. TSN.com is in full out celebration with an entire mini-section devoted to the move. Of course, Illegal Curve is the ultimate source on everything Winnipeg hockey.

Always felt a kinship with the other non-traditionals like y’all, Florida, Tampa, and Nashville. To see y’alls team taken away so unceremoniously is depressing for Southern hockey fans everywhere. My condolences.

You need to put a consistently good product on the ice. You also need stars people can gravitate to (e.g., Chipper, Joe Johnson, Matt Ryan, etc.). The Thrashers didn’t really promote their stars like they should have. The Dany Heatley incident didn’t help matters, either.
