POTG Friday Headlines, News, and Morning Links

The Memorial Day weekend is finally here and not a minute too soon. There is no better way to start the weekend off than with the Boston-Tampa Bay game seven tonight.

If you would rather get off the couch and for those of you who missed the group outing to see The Hangover (which is worth seeing despite what critics may say) last night, there is another outing tonight at the Nashville Sounds game.If you own a DVR (I don't), you could go to the baseball game then see game seven later.

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend. For today's news and headlines go ahead and make the jump...

In Pred Nation...

Pete Weber gives kudos to Pekka Rinne as a playoff star.

Amanda DiPaolo steps in at On The Forecheck with today's grade on David Legwand. Since she is a college professor, she should know how to do it.

Mark Willoughby has his weekly "My View" and looks at the dichotomy of free trade agreements.

Jeremy Gover is down to number eight in is top 15 moment of the Preds' season countdown.

Game Seven: Lightning at Bruins...

There's nothing like a game seven and one on a Friday night at TD Garden in Boston makes it even more of an event. The only consistency in the first six games has been the inconsistency of both teams. The whole series has felt like a rolercoaster ride and tonight, at some point the ride will stop and one team will get off.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. CDT and be on Versus. It will probably come down to goaltending with Vezina Candidate Tim Thomas hoping to play like he did in games three and five and not in the others. Dwayne Roloson is 7-0 in elimination games in his career but has struggled in this series, playing just well enough to win three wide open contests. RLD Hockey agrees that it's all about goaltending.

Whoever moves on to the finals will have plenty of time to rest since game one is not until next Wednesday night in Vancouver.

Matt Reitz has his thoughts on the Sanctity of Game Seven.

Around the NHL...

For the second day in a row, a US hockey icon retired with Doug Weight saying "that's all" on the island. Puck Daddy has a good perspective piece. Weight will move straight to the Islanders' staff.

Ian Walker looks at ten things that have led to Vancouver's success this season.

Ryan Porth ponders where San Jose goes from here.

When the Stanley Cup Finals schedule was released critics came out of the wood work.

Patrick Williams previews the Calder Cup finals between Houston and Binghamton that begins tonight in Texas.

I couldn't figure out what was being thrown on the ice in Tampa after game six but research revealed it to be "rally drums." They would make great cicada swatters here in Tennessee.

The Rogers Arena stanchion is enjoying its 15 minutes of fame.

The Sharks come clean on injuries at their locker clean out. So should everyone lay off Dany Heatly since he had a broken hand?

Steve Lapore has the numbers that indicate that the Canucks win on Tuesday was the second highest rated NHL game in the country's history. The numbers in the US paled in comparison. The Eastern Conference series did much better.

Big news out of Buffalo that Rick Jeanneret will only work home games and a limited schedule of road games next year. It will be hockey's loss when he fully retires. There has been no decision on replacements.

There will not be a 2K Sports 2K12 Video hockey game this year. At the same time. Marc Torrence has the new stuff on EA Sports NHL '12.
