The Morning After Round-Up: Predators 3, Coyotes 0

Last night's 3-0 shutout win by Pekka Rinne has to be one of the great mental victories of recent time in the sporting world. I really expected to see Rinne come out flat and drained from being in the media spotlight in the NHL world all day long after signing his seven-year, $49 million deal on his 29th birthday.

Instead, Rinne came out focused and steady in net, stopping all 35 Coyote shots and improving his record to 6-4-2 and lowering his GAA to 2.28 and his save percentage to .929 which is on pace with last season's Vezina runner-up effort.

Rinne has been a workhorse for the Preds, playing all but 40 minutes of the team's first twelve games to lead the league in time on ice for netminders. He is also tied for the NHL lead in shutouts with three along with the Kings' Jonathan Quick.

Another interesting fact to show the pressure that Rinne has been under is that the Predators are allowing the most shots against in the league (32.9) while generating the least shots on goal (24.2). The gap has narrowed over the past few games but remains a disparity.

Hats off to Rinne and the Predators organization for keeping the goalie on his routine and ready to compete as much as possible on a very unusual day.

The Predators continue on the "CMA" road trip in San Jose on Saturday after having picked up nine points in the last six games to move to a respectable seventh in the Western Conference after a slow start.

Here is our game story from last night.
