Predator Rookies Win Big, Henrik Sedin Interview, and Thursday Update

The Nashville Predator rookies took south Florida by storm last night defeating the young Panther squad 5-0. To add insult to injury, they won the post-game shoot-out 2-1.

Blake Goeffrion had three points (1g, 2a) while Taylor beck added two power play goals to lead the Predators to the big win. Ryan Ellis had a goal and an assist while the other goal came from Michael Latta.

In the shoot-out Austin Watson and Mark Santorelli had the scores. Chet Pickard started the game and Anders Lindback completed the shutout.

Linus Klasen gave the crowd a scare when he was knocked to the ice by Chris Clackson and was unable to move for a few minutes. On Frozen Pond reported that it was a cut on the chin and tongue that will be re-evaluated on Friday. Klasen will miss today's game leaving the Preds short a player on an already short squad.

Seth Lake found this video of the blind side hit. The video from the entire game can also be found at this YouTube Channel.

The Predators return to the ice today at 11 a.m. this morning against the Panthers before flying back to Nashville for the official start of camp tomorrow.

Donnie Rivette at Litter Box Cats has tons of pictures from the game. Recaps from Florida come from The Sun Sentinel, Panthers.com, The Rat Trick, and On Frozen Pond.

Nashville recaps came from Predators.com, Josh Cooper, and OnTheForecheck.

Video from the Summer Archive...

Today, we have a video that we made of a very happy Henrik Sedin speaking to the media minutes after winning the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP) at the 2010 NHL Awards Show at the Palms in Las Vegas.

With Roberto Luongo dropping the captaincy this year, Sedin along with Ryan Kessler are considered to be the front runners to wear the "C" this season.

Programming and Book Notes...

Rob Higgins is scheduled to be our guest on Monday's POTG Radio. Earlier in the day at 5 p.m. Eastern, he will appear with Boomer Gordon on XM NHL Home Ice. We have been thrilled with Higgy's book, but I received a couple of notes about Amazon sending a delayed shipping email. I checked with Rob, and the situation has been resolved and the books should go out shortly.

Here is the email from the publisher, "Books are on the way to amazon!!! Just confirmed today. Once they receive the books all orders will be filled, and the availability will drop to 24 hour turnaround. Barnes and Noble will also have their stock this week too. Tell him not to cancel - back orders will be filled automatically when the stock is received."

In Pred Nation...

Hockey's Future has a new list of prospect rankings for the Predators. It's not hard to guess who they have pegged at number one.

Amanda at Predlines reports that the seven one-way deals have not stifled competition on the blue line. Amanda is cranking out great stories every day from camp. If you look back to last year, Alexander Sulzer spent plenty of time in Milwaukee on a one-way deal.

The Predators asked Ryan Ellis to bulk up a little over the summer. Josh Cooper has the results. He also has five things to look for as Camp opens tomorrow.

Jeremy at Section 303 has three minutes with one of his favorite players, Marcel Goc.

Jordin Tootoo's season preview is up at OnTheForecheck.

Mike Chen at From The Rink has his Central Division preview with input from Dirk Hoag.

Around the NHL...

No surprise on Wednesday when the NHL's big announcement was the All-Star Game going to Ottawa in 2011-12. I can't say that sounds too appealing in the dead of winter.

On the day that the NHL was to begin receiving funding from the City of Glendale as part of a $25 million package put together to help fund the Coyotes, Gary Bettman announced in Ottawa that there would be a December 31 deadline for a deal to get done. He also said that he would not get involved in the local politics of Quebec.

From TSN Podcast Central comes Jay Grossman and Ian Pulver discussing the Ilya Kovalchuk contract.

@MC79Hockey has a recap of the odd squabble out of the camp of Eric Belanger. Very interesting reading from the legal side.

Courtney Beckham has a nice piece about the crazy off-season that is mercifully coming to an end.

One of the oddities of the pre-season so far is the Oilers refusing to let Sheldon Souray participate in camp. While it may decrease the chance of an injury, I'm not sure how it helps his trade value.

Intent to Blow reports a different solution to the Devil's $3 million dollar fine that was originally intended.
