Ryan Miller Interview, No Kovi Kontract, and Thursday Thoughts

Today's video from the summer storage bin comes from Ryan Miller as he spoke to the press at the Palms Pre-NHL Awards Show Media Event on the day before he was awarded the 2010 Vezina Trophy.

Miller discusses the 2009-2010 season, the Olympics, and goes into some detail on the new sizing regulations for goalie equipment that will be different in the coming season.

In Pred Nation...

Dirk Hoag put together a nice piece on the trade of Ian McKenzie to Atlanta for defenseman Grant Lewis. McKenzie was a nice enough guy that we have talked to a couple of times at development camps, but he did not appear to have a future with the Preds. He actually had a tough time staying in Milwaukee the last two years. Hopefully, Lewis will bring more to the table.

On his first official day on the job as the Tennessean's Preds beat writer, Josh Cooper reports that Cody Franson was at yesterday's informal work out and is hopeful to have a new contract soon. Here is another post with a list of participants at Centennial Sportsplex yesterday. He also posts about the Peterson for Parkinson's events.

On the Forecheck's player spotlight for today is Sergei Kostitsyn.

Shea Weber made the list of Top Five Norris Trophy candidates for the coming season at From The Rink.

Hockey Night in Sweden comments on Andreas Thuresson, Linus Klasen, and Jonas Andersson with comments on their chances of making it in the NHL this season..

Kovi's Korner...

Just when we thought we could shut down the daily Kovi's Korner, the deadline for an answer was extended until Friday.

Lou Lamoriello issued this official statement.

Larry Brooks has some interesting news from a source that says that the NHL has given the NHLPA an ultimatum to be met by 5:00 on Friday. If this is true, the CBA negotiations are going full out now.

With every breaking strory there always seems to be a denial. This time it comes from @EJHradek_ESPN: On NY Post story concerning NHL/NHLPA Kovy talks, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly says, "No ultimatum has been given."

This may or may not be pertinent to the situation from @dchesnokov: KHL season starts in exactly 1 week (from yesterday).

Around the NHL...

Big signing news from @CraigCustance: Got confirmation from a league source that Antti Niemi is headed to San Jose. Will accept 1-year, $2 million offer. Ryan Porth has an analysis of the San Jose signing.

ESPN spilled the beans on the mystery buyer for the Coyotes. Matthew Hulsizer, who is the CEO of PEAK6Investments, is said to be negotiating a lease with the City of Glendale with intentions of making an offer to buy the Yotes. Five For Howling adds some additional commentary.

Jon Jordan officially has his grand opening at Kukla'a Korner with the Beasts of the Southeast column.

Ian Mendes has a very thoughtful piece on the MSM/Blogger front. He makes a few points for both entities that is excellent advice.

Last night's The Program Podcast had Rory Fitzpatrick (yes, the Vote for Rory guy) as a guest and he was very candid about several items that are being discussed about the upcoming CBA negotiations. One important point was that Donald Fehr will have a difficult time getting the different factions together as a solid front.

Ryan Porth looks at the Carey Price contract dispute. It appears that he may "go on strike" if he is not signed by camp. For someone with the weight of the Montreal fan base on his shoulders, he doesn't need to give them more reason to boo louder.

Helene Elliott has an LA Times story on NHL players and social media.

Stay Classy has fun with Google Maps with Insight to take a look at the off season.

Here's the low down on this year's cost of the NHL Center Ice package.
