POTG Weekend Headlines, News, and Links: On Ice Sessions Both Saturday and Sunday

Today is the day when Predator fans will flock to Centennial Sportsplex to get a good look at the 55 players in the Predators preseason camp. Go here for the full preseason roster as well as grouping for the opening weekend of camp that can be printed by numbers or position. The full schedule is also available there too.

The players will be on the ice both days this weekend from 9:45 a.m. until 2:20, broken into three groups that will each follow the same routine. Both sessions are open to the public and fans are encouraged to attend. Big Ben has his training camp guide that has some good advice for newcomers.

Monday will mark the first preseason games with a rare doubleheader in Florida with games at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There will be no radio coverage.

Tuesday's game against Washington from the old First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, at 6 p.m. will be broadcast from the Preds' new flagship station 102.5 The Game. After a road game at Carolina on Friday, the Preds will have their first home action on Saturday, September 24 against the Winnipeg Jets.

Programming Note...

Ryan Porth and I looked at the Predators in a preseason camp preview at Smashville on the Glass. Go here for the podcast.

In Pred Nation... has a new training camp primer.

Josh Cooper reports that Mike Fisher may not be ready by opening day. I'm sure that will be added incentive for some of the young forwards hoping to stick with the team. I don't think the Preds will take any chances on Fisher's recovery. Another post has more injury news. He also recounted the summer that turned tragic and chronicles the team's first day of practice.

Robby Stanley has the opinions of seven bloggers about the races to watch in training camp at Hockey Night in Nashville.

Pekka Rinne will wear two different masks this season. Ryan Porth has a look at both.

The Predators' preseason game against Washington at the First Mariner Centerin Baltimore is nearing a sellout. I like the sounds of the $200 tickets that include a crab fest.

From @JoshuaCooper: #preds have decals on the back of their helmets with the number 3 for Wade Belak.

Pred Gold takes a shot at predicting the Predators opening day line up.

Around the NHL...

Chris Pronger was named captain in Philadelphia with Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere as the alternates.

The standoff between the Kings and Drew Doughty may be not be resolved anytime soon as both sides appear to have dug in. Elliotte Friedman gives the perspective from all parties involved in an informative piece.

It appears Sidney Crosby will skate today at the Pens first day of camp but has not been cleared for contact. Rob Rossi reports that there is disagreement between Crosby's doctors over when he will be ready for contact. Scott Burnside checked out Sid and the rest of the Pens in his camp tour yesterday.

It's rare to see fans all across the league united on something but everyone seems to appreciate Teemu Selanne's return. Kevin Allen labels him a "hockey treasure."

Our favorite curmudgeon at NHL Home Ice has a few thoughts on the problems that Winnipeg players are running into in the new city. Contrary to rumors, Big Buff says that he is fit and ready to play.

Chris Johnston has the latest on ex-Pred Matthew Lombardi. The Toronto Sun also talked with the speedy center.

Another ex-Pred Scott Nichol has been cleared for light contact in St. Louis. I have a feeling that having Nichol back in the division will come back to haunt the Preds this season.

A final ex-Pred Ryan Jones, is looking for a set position in Edmonton.

Adrian Dater has video updates from Matt Duchene and J. S. Giguere. He also has ten questions for a better Avalanche team.

Michael Langlois takes a look at how long Ron Wilson will hold on in Toronto.

Ryan Kennedy discusses the long time friendship and series of pranks between Ron Wilson and Brian Burke. I wonder how that will go if Burke eventually has to let Wilson go.

From @reporterchris: Ron Wilson says #leafs will be down to 40 guys by Wednesday. "I'm cutting through all the bs here and worrying about the NHL players." Why were they invited to begin with if they were "BS"?

Selanne, Perry and the Rocket... Watch out for the Ducks!

The Washington Capitals have a new third jersey that looks like the one from last year's Winter Classic. Being white, it will only be worn during 16 road games.

Finally, Alex Ovechkin was on the mound in Baltimore last night.

Odds and Ends...

The band Hot Chelle Rae is from Middle Tennessee that are huge Predator fans. Here is their new single. They need to play the bandstage at a game this season.

Here is an interesting piece on how GM is trying to re-market their brands.

The next reality show will be about the competition between folks in Arizona bidding on foreclosed homes.

If you like Chipotle's Mexican Grill, would you eat Southeast Asian food with the same concept?

The Android voice program is learning to understand foreign accents. Maybe it will eventually understand Amanda DiPaolo speaking Canadian.
