The Morning After: Montreal 2, Predators 1 (OT)

With all the celebration of the Predators' 1000th game going on it would be easy to blame the Predators' slow start on the distraction of the festivities but neither Barry Trotz or any of the players were willing to go that route.

The fact that Montreal played about as well as anyone could against the Predators probably had more to do with the loss than anything. It was surprising to see the Habs' speed and defense as solid as they were. For the casual Hockey Night in Canada viewer, the game had to be a treat.

The fans at the Bridgestone were treated to an incredible match-up between two teams that are mirror images in many ways. They both play defense first type of games and feature speed at all positions. The Habs are considerably smaller than the Preds and appear to have sought out a collection of shorter players, with nine players shorter than six feet, compared to the Predators who only have four.

Since the Predators first made the playoffs in 2003-04 they have only missed the top eight one time. Montreal has gone every year in that stretch.

If the Predators get moved to the Eastern Conference in the coming shake up, Montreal would be one of the teams that would be fun to see on a more regular basis.

Here is our game story from last night and Barry Trotz's postgame presser.
