The Morning After Round-Up: Predators 3, Capitals 1

Last night's win over the Caps was huge for the Predators who had not beaten the Caps since 2005, and had not won in Nashville against them since before the lockout.

It possibly was one of the most exciting games played for a casual fan to watch in a long time. The contest had plenty of back and forth action, solid defense, huge saves at both ends, and a roller-coaster of emotions at the end, with the Predators going down, and them coming back quickly before remorse set in.

The teams put on a great show for the national press with Michael Farber from Sports Illustrated and Ken Campbell from The Hockey News in the house. The good pub from this game will come on the heels of Hockey Night in Canada declaring that Nashville was indeed, "a hockey town."

Another big winner may have been Ryan Suter's agent Neil Sheehy, who is in town to meet with Preds GM David Poile about a new contract for the defenseman.

Nothing occurred during the contest that would disprove Suter's worth in the $6.5 -7.0 million  range. I expect to hear positive news about movement toward a signing either today or before the week is out.

Sheehy's other clients, Colin Wilson and Jack Hillen also strutted their stuff in front of their agent, especially with Colin Wilson's Bobby Orr-esque game winning goal.

Another highlight of the evening was the Joel Ward tribute video produced by the Predators game operations folks. It brought the crowd to their feet for a standing ovation and a tear to any gold-blooded Predator fan.

Also, the season's first legitimate, spontaneous TV time-our standing ovation occurred with 4:05 left in the game after the Predators tied the contest at 1-1.

Pekka Rinne got the first star at Puck Daddy and the third star at NHL.com.
